Fox Rivier Sanctuary- more than 130 species, including 25 warbler species. Spectacular during spring warbler migration. 

Paradise Valley State Wildlife Are-Bark River Unit- more than 200 species, including 19 duck species, Least Bittern, Black-necked Stilt, five owl species, and Yellow-headed Blackbird. Amazing year round! 

Vernon Marsh (woods & dikes)-nearly 230 species, including Least Bittern, Black Tern, Marsh Wren, and Yellow-headed Blackbird. Winter species include Long-eared and Northern Saw-whet owls, Northern Shrike, American Robin, and American Tree Sparrow. 

Waukesha County Parks: 

  • Retzer Nature Center- more than 180 species, including eight hawk species, Easter Bluebird, 17 sparrow species, and Bobolink. 
  • Muskego Park- nearly 160 species, including American Woodcock, 28 warbler species, and 12 sparrow species. 
  • Nashotah Park- more than 150 species, including four owl species, Northern Shrike, and 16 sparrow species. 

South Kettle Moraine State Forest: 

  • Lapham Peak Unit- more than 180 species, including hawks, Red-headed Woodpecker, Acadian Flycatcher, Veery, 30 warbler species, 17 sparrow species, and Scarlet Tanager. 
  • Scuppernong Springs Nature Trail- more than 180 species, including Red-shouldered hawk, Alder Flycatcher, Wood Thrush, 30 warbler species, and 17 sparrow species. 
  • Paradise Springs Nature Trail- more than 170 species, including Tufted Titmouse and 31 warbler species.
